CMC Annual Dinner

Eighth Annual CMC Dinner and Award Presentation

Tickets on sale now!

The CMC will be holding its 8th Annual Dinner event on Sunday evening, October 13th, 2019, at 5:00 pm.  We’ll again be celebrating at the Catamount Restaurant at the Emerson Resort and Spa on NYS Rte. 28 in Mt. Tremper, NY. This event coincides with the 16th annual Catskill Lark in the Park, which begins October 5th.

Members and non-members of the CMC are welcome to join the evening’s fun. We’ll start with hors d’oeuvres and cash service, followed by a dinner buffet.  While we’re chatting, you can place your bids on our silent auction prizes (see below).  We’ll follow dinner with an awards ceremony for new finishers of the Catskills All Trails Challenge and a presentation by noted Catskills author Will Nixon.

This year’s dinner speaker:

Will Nixon, outdoor enthusiast and popular local author, will will speak about his mountain experiences and the ten years of Bushwhack Books, which he and Michael Perkins created to publish local best seller Walking Woodstock and other local outdoor related publications.  He will also read from essays and poems inspired by the Catskills.

Will Nixon is the co-author with Michael Perkins of Walking Woodstock: Journeys into the Wild Heart of America’s Most Famous Small Town, a local bestseller that began as a column for the Woodstock Times. They’ve also produced The Pocket Guide to Woodstock, which leads visitors on a historical walk in the village and then sends them out to local trails and preserves. A new version of this Pocket Guide will appear this fall. The Woodstock Land Conservancy honored these books with its William R. Ginsberg Stewardship Award in 2018.

Nixon has also written a portrait of the town in poems, Acrostic Woodstock. His other poetry books are My Late Mother as a Ruffed Grouse and Love in the City of Grudges. An environmental journalist in the 1990s, he was a special correspondent for The Adirondack Explorer and a contributing editor for the Amicus Journal published by the Natural Resources Defense Council. In 1996 he left Manhattan for a Catskills log cabin with a wood stove and mice. He later returned to civilization, or at least a cottage with a thermostat, but sometimes he wishes he was still at the edge of the wilderness.
