We’ll do a long challenging hike/bushwhack traversing Fir (3629′), Big Indian (3699′), Eagle (3583′) & Balsam.(3607′), with about 3350′ elevation gain. This is one of the longest high ridge hikes in the Catskills. Nice views can be had now that leaves are down.

Event Duration:  12 miles, 10 hours

Level of Difficulty:  Difficult – Bushwhack

Bring: Wear warm hiking boots, and pack an extra clothing layer. Do not wear cotton. Hiking poles are recommended. Bring lunch, snacks, and 3 liters of water/sports drink. Depending on trail conditions traction aids and/or snowshoes may be required.

Don’t forget to wear blaze orange during hunting season.

Driving Directions:   Preferred meeting place/time: Bread Alone on Rt 28 in Boiceville (Google Maps link:, leaving at 7:45. Alternate meeting place/time: DEC parking area at the end of Ryder Hollow Rd (Google Maps link:, at 8:20. There is no cell service at this location. This is where our hike will end. We’ll leave cars, and shuttle to the DEC parking area on Burnham Hollow Rd (Google Maps link: to start the hike, at about 8:45.
