Balsam Lake Mountain and Millbrook Ridge

This nine-mile, one-way route is mostly on marked trails and concludes at Kelly Hollow. the hike is considered moderate -to-difficult and will include 2700’ of elevation gain. The pace of the hike will be moderate (about 1-1/2 mph moving speed) with steady climbs and descents, and short breaks. The overall time outside is expected to be seven hours.

Hikers need to bring water/ sports drink, lunch/ snacks, sturdy water-resistant boots, proper winter/ layered clothing, microspikes (snowshoes if needed); gaiters and hiking poles are recommended.

The event is limited to 12 people and registration is required by March 27. To register, contact event leader Marv Freedman at marvfreedman@gmail.com  Dogs are permitted only with the permission of the event leader. We will meet at the Kelly Hollow Trailhead at 8am to coordinate the shuttle.

Driving directions: From the east, take State Route 28 two miles west of Margaretville and turn left across from the stone schoolhouse. Take an immediate right onto BWS Rd 10 and continue 3.8 miles to Millbrook Road. Turn left on Millbrook Road and continue 5.3 miles, and the Kelly Hollow Trailhead is on the right.

From the west, take State Route 28 from Andes toward Margaretville. After State Route 30 joins 28, continue for 1.2 miles and turn right across from the stone schoolhouse. Take an immediate right onto BWS Rd 10 and continue 3.8 miles to Millbrook Road. Turn left on Millbrook Road and continue 5.3 miles, and the Kelly Hollow Trailhead is on the right.
