Cabot Mountain, Big Pond, and Alder Lake

Here’s a longer outing in the western Catskills that may be especially of interest for those hiking to complete the Catskills All Trails Challenge. Rated difficult, this hike is 8.7 miles in length and is expected to take eight hours. The hike will include the Touch Me Not and Alder Lake Trails.

Hikers need to bring water/ drink, lunch/ snacks, proper clothing, rain gear, insect repellent, poles (optional) and sturdy hiking shoes. The hike is limited to 12 people, and participants must register by April 25. Register by contacting Al Purdy at Albertpurdy1@aol.com or (845) 514-0919. Notes: dogs are not permitted on this hike;  Severe weather will postpone the hike.

We will meet at the Alder Lake Parking Lot at 9am.

Driving Directions: From NYS Thruway Exit 19. Take State Rte. 28 west 45.5 miles. Turn left and then a quick right from 28 onto BWS road 10. Proceed 8.3 miles and turn left onto Barkaboom Road 6.2 miles. Turn left onto Beaverkill Road for 1.4 miles. Turn left onto Alder Lake Road and continue 2.2 miles to and turn right onto Cross Mountain Road. Go 100 ft. and turn right onto the DEC access road to alder lake by a yellow gate. Continue for 0.4 miles to the large parking area.
