Join Al Purdy for this one-way, eight-mile hike to Plateau Mountain. We will meet where the hike will end on Notch Inn Road, then carpool to the beginning of the hike at Notch Lake in Stony Clove Notch. We will climb the one-mile, rigorous stretch of the Devils Path and enjoy the view from Orchard Point. Continuing past the easterly-facing Danny’s Lookout, we’ll traverse the Plateau to its summit and then backtrack to the Warner Creek Trail for the descent. The outing is expected to take six hours and is rated as difficult.
Participants need to bring lunch/ snacks, water/ drink, insect repellent, hiking poles, sunscreen, and sturdy hiking shoes. This hike is limited to 12 participants and registration is required. There is a fee to park at Notch Lake.
Directions: To reach the meeting place (and end of hike location) on Notch Inn Road, take Exit 19 (Kingston) from the NYS Thruway to State Route 28 and follow for 22.7 miles. Turn right onto State Route 214 (Main Street) at Phoenicia and continue for 0.2 miles. Turn left and continue on Route 214 for 7.7 miles. Turn right onto Notch Inn Road and the parking area will be on your left near the road’s entrance. The parking area can also be reached from State Route 23A; turn south on State Route 214 (between the villages of Tannersville and Hunter) and proceed 4.25 miles.
