Join Siu S. Yuen for a strenuous out-and-back, six-mile hike to Sugarloaf Mountain (3800’). We'll begin on the Roaring Kill Trail (yellow) for 0.25 miles until we reach the junction with the blue-blazed Pecoy Notch Trail. Climbing steadily, we’ll pass through Dibble's Quarry with views of Kaaterskill High Peak and Round Top to the north, along with views of the valley and Twin to the southeast. After passing the Beaver Pond and climbing to the notch, we'll turn right onto the Devil's Path Trail (red) and ascend over rock scrambles to the summit of Sugarloaf. We'll then break for snacks and lunch at the viewpoint. This outing is rated as difficult and is expected to take five hours.
Participants must bring lunch/snacks, water/ sports drink, rain gear, clothing layers, sturdy hiking boots, and boot traction/ microspikes. This hike is limited to 10 people, so please register early. The deadline to register is November 8. Register by contacting ssyuen@msn.com. Dogs are not permitted on this hike. Directions: Turn left onto RT 32 / RT 212 from Thruway in Saugerties (Exit 20) for 0.2 miles, straight on RT 212 for 2.1 miles, bear right onto Blue Mountain Road /CR 35 for 1.4 miles, left to stay on W. Saugerties Rd / CR 35/ CR 33 for 3.0 miles (name changes to Platte Clove Road / CR 16 for the next 3.3 miles), left onto Dale Lane for 0.5 miles and then bear right onto Roaring Kill Road for 0.7 miles to DEC Parking area.
