First Day Hike on Ashokan High Point | Wednesday, January 1, 2020 @ 8:00 AM

DCF 1.0Ashokan High Point (3086') is a prominent mountain in the eastern Catskills overlooking the Ashokan Reservoir and the Burroughs Range. Elevation gain is about 2000'.  Most of hike is relatively easy, but there are some steep pitches. The trail follows the Kanape Brook for more than half the hike.This hike is co-hosted by the CMC and the Catskills Visitor Center and sponsored by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.Event Duration:  7.6 miles, 7 hoursLevel of Difficulty:  Moderate-DifficultLeaders: Wendell George of CMC and Olivia Bernard of CVCBring: Bring lunch , snacks, something to drink. Wear warm, moisture wicking clothing that is easy to layer, good hiking boots, headlamp or flashlight, snowshoes and microspikes. Hiking poles are recommended. Hike will be cancelled if weather causes hazardous road conditions.Registration required by December 30th.  Register by contacting the leader. Please be sure to notify the leader asap if you will need to cancel your registration.Driving Directions:  Meet at the Catskills Visitor Center at From the CVC we'll go to the Kanape Brook parking area  (GPS: 41.935026, -74.328983).From SR 28 in Hurley or in Boiceville, take Rte. 28A to the intersection with Watson Hollow Rd (CR42) in West Shokan. Go West 4.1 miles. Parking area will be on your right.From SR 17 take the Liberty exit to SR 55 going east. Turn onto Rte 55A then go north towards Sundown.
