Saturday, September 6, 11am - Hike to Balsam Lake Mountain Fire Tower

Meet at either the Balsam Lake Mountain trailhead (at end of Beaverkill Road NE of Lew Beach/Livingston Manor) or the  Mill Brook Road trailhead (S of Margaretville)  for simultanious hikes to the Balsam Lake Mountain summit, 4.4 miles roundtrip (5.9 miles from Mill Brook side).  Rock scramble ascent, gentler route option downhill. Tour of tower and ranger cabin by knowledgeable staff, followed by a ceremonial handing out of Catskill Fire Tower patches and Five Fire Tower Passports (sponsored by Watershed Post and Morgan Outdoors).  A corps of trained volunteers staff all five fire renovated towers every weekend Memorial Day to Columbus Day weekend, keeping their history alive. A great opportunity for adventure and amazing views of the Catskills! Pack a picnic lunch and water, wear sturdy footwear and layered clothing.
