Trout Pond, Mud Pond, and Russell Brook Falls

CMC Outing near Trout Pond

Join Al Purdy for a long hike on some of the lesser- traveled trails in the Western Catskills. For those engaged in the Catskills All Trails Challenge, this 11.8-mile outing beginning on Campbell Brook Road will cover the complete Mud Pond Trail and 4.1 miles of the Trout Pond Trail. This event is expected to last eight hours and is rated as difficult.

Hikers need to bring water/ sports drink, lunch/ snacks, sturdy water-resistant boots, proper winter/ layered clothing, rain gear, microspikes (snowshoes if needed), and trekking poles. This hike is limited to 12 people and registration is required. To register, contact Al Purdy at Albertpurdy1@aol.com or (845) 489-2332 on or before March 28. Note, dogs are not permitted on this hike; and severe weather will postpone the hike.

Driving Directions: Campbell Brook Road is reached from NYS 206 (also known as Del. Cty Hwy 7).

From the intersection of NYS Routes 206 and 30 (2.75 miles west of Downsville) take 206 south for 2.9 miles and turn right onto Jug Tavern Rd. Take Jug Tavern Rd. 1.6 miles to the end and turn left onto Campbell Mountain Road. Take Campbell Mtn. Rd. 0.4 miles to it’s end and turn right onto Campbell Brook Road. Continue 0.5 miles and the parking area will be on the left.

From Roscoe (at Main Street traffic light), take 206 north for 8.4 miles and turn left onto Jug Tavern Rd. Take Jug Tavern Rd. 1.6 miles to the end and turn left onto Campbell Mountain Road. Take Campbell Mtn. Rd. 0.4 miles to it’s end and turn right onto Campbell Brook Road. Continue 0.5 miles and the parking area will be on the left.
