Echo Lake and Overlook Mountain

This is a strenuous and scenic 10-mile hike to Echo Lake and Overlook Mountain Fire Tower from the Meads Meadow Trailhead, using the Overlook Mountain connector to the main Overlook Mountain Trail. From there, the trail climbs steeply and steadily to the top of Overlook Mountain following an old gravel road to ruins of an old hotel that once transported guests in the late 19th century to the Overlook Mountain House. Shortly after, we'll turn left on the rocky trail to head down to Echo Lake, a beautiful natural lake surrounded by mountains. After a short break at the lean-to, we'll retrace our steps and hike about 0.4 mile to the fire tower and explore various scenic overlooks nearby. There are great views from the cliffs and the fire tower toward the Hudson Valley and the Catskill High Peaks. We'll break for lunch/snacks at another lesser-known viewpoint.

This hike is limited to 12 people, so please register early. Registration deadline is October 25. To register, contact Siu S. Yuen at ssyuen@msn.com Participants should bring lunch/ snacks, water/ drink, proper clothing (layers, rain gear), sturdy hiking shoes, and insect repellent. Note: dogs are not permitted on this hike.
